This is NOT a comprehensive guide, simply some quick tips on how to easily select a pickleball paddle that is right for your game!
If you are a beginner, stick to the basics! Otherwise, you are "burning daylight" getting bogged down on your paddle decision when you could be out learning and playing! A paddle purchase does not have to be a life long commitment!
Also, there are hundreds of paddle manufacturers...we only stock the BEST! So....if it's on our site, it's a good paddle and whether it is $49, $89 or $209 it will be a safe bet! Yes, it's ok to shop by price point - buy what you are comfortable spending and get out there!
WEIGHT
- A heavier paddle takes more effort to swing but with mass it can also provide more power
- A lighter paddle is easier to maneuver but won't generate as much force (good for an over-hitter)
MATERIAL
- Graphite paddles provide added touch, precision & ball control
- Composite paddles provide more power and a livelier ball response
- A textured face can enhance ball spin, if you brush across the ball (consistently flat hitters need not worry about this)
SHAPE
- A longer overall length or longer head shape allows more reach (think slower footwork, shorter arms, etc.)
- A wider head (all around, or just toward the top) provides a larger sweet spot (more forgiving for off-center hits)
