HOW DO I KNOW IF MY RACQUET NEEDS A RESTRING?
This is a question we are asked daily. Think of it like the oil in your car. It is simply a matter of routine maintenance. Can you drive your car without ever changing your oil? To a certain point, of course! Is your car performing to its potential when you do so? No! In a nutshell, here's the scoop.
Are your strings broken? You need a restring! (ok, no points for that one, it's a gimmie)
Has it been over a year since your last restring? You need a restring! Whether your racquet is in use four times a week or whether it's been sitting in a closet for a year or more racquet strings are constantly losing tension. An easy rule of thumb for non-string-breakers is to have their racquet strung at least once a year to keep the tension at a playable level. Additionally, if you play three times a week you should restring three times a year. Twice a week, twice a year and so on. Otherwise you can expect to work harder than you have to to direct the ball where you want it to go since looser strings result in loss of ball control / shot accuracy.
Have you lost control over shots you'd normally make with ease? You need a restring! When your kill shot suddenly and regularly disappears and the ball seems to have a mind of its own when you know you're better than that, it's an indication that your tension has relaxed to a point that you are ready for a restring.
WHAT RACQUETBALL STRING SHOULD I USE?
When you purchased your racquetball racquet, it was probably factory pre-strung at a mid-range tension for a combination of power and control. The string variety used at the factory is typically a basic 17 gauge synthetic gut or one step above, offering decent playability for most players.
We offer racquetball stringing using strings ranging from basic synthetic guts to premium strings for better playability or more durable strings for longer string life.
Reminder: 16 gauge strings (thicker) are more durable than 17 gauge, however 17g (thinner) and 18g (even thinner!) are higher performing in terms of playability. Most racquetball players use 16g or 17g strings. Most high end racquetball racquets are factory strung with a 17 gauge string.

WHAT STRING TENSION SHOULD I REQUEST?
String tension is measured in pounds. The higher the number, the tighter the string job (the more pounds of tension the string is pulled to). Higher tensions result in a firmer feel and more control (but less power). The lower the number of pounds, the looser the string job. Lower tensions result in more power and more comfort to the arm. As a rule, racquetball racquets are typically strung between 24 and 36 pounds of tension. Racquets come from the factory strung at a mid-range tension for a blend of both power and control. Call us if you want the exact range for your racquet, or ask us to string it at "mid-point" for an equal blend of power and control. We will string it at the middle of the recommended tension for that frame.
DO I NEED MY BUMPER / GROMMETS REPLACED?
If your bumper guard on the head of the racquet is ripped, cracked or very worn, it is time to have it replaced. If you see cracked or missing grommets (the plastic pieces on the inside of the racquet head) that is another indication you need it replaced. The bumper / grommet set is a kit that replaces all these parts. We install it prior to stringing your racquet. Most run $15.95 to $18.95 installed. Let us know in advance if you know you need it replaced, otherwise, we'll replace it at our discretion of it needs it. If we do not have these parts in stock, we will apply head tape and or repair individual grommets as needed.
DO I NEED MY RACQUET REGRIPPED?
We will never replace your grip unless you ask us to. We understand that there are a few of you out there who like your grip more and more the rattier it gets (ew, but who's judging?) For the rest of you, when your grip is worn and slipping in your hand it's time for a new one. If you request a regrip and don't instruct otherwise, we will remove all the layers /grips you have applied and apply a new replacement grip to the base of the handle to return it to "factory" condition. If you are requesting a wrap-style grip, it is helpful to know if you are right or left-handed so that we know which way to wrap the grip. If we don't know, we will use the standard right hand application. If there is a particular grip you like and we have it, we'll use it. If you'd like us to replace it similar to the factory grip, we can do that too. Just let us know your preferences. Click to see the racquetball grips that we typically have in stock. Installed pricing for racquetball regrips ranges from $12.95 to $17.95. It is essentially the price to buy the grip plus a $7.00 installation charge to have it professionally installed.
WHICH RACQUETBALL GRIP SHOULD I GET FROM ALL THE GRIP OPTIONS?
Many players who wear a glove when they play prefer a one-piece rubber grip for more tackiness and greater durability. If you don't wear a glove when you play racquetball, we recommend sticking with a wrap style grip. Our one-piece rubber racquetball grip options include:
•Python Grip** – Textured grooves for less slippage, *see install note below
•Ektelon Original Grip – thinnest rubber grip on the market for smallest feel in the hand, textured
•Head Tacki-Mac IRT Pro – Very firm rubber, great sandpaper like gritty texture for a truly no-slip grip
•Head Tacki-Mac Serrated – Tiny serrated grooves in the rubber for extra traction, less bulky than Python
•Ektelon Vision Grip – Squishy, gummy like grip. Not textured; the only truly tacky grip of the bunch.

**Python Grip – has unfortunate “rings” at the base of the grip that are supposed to help you keep a better grip on the racquet. However, the rings add significant size to the butt of the racquet, so our standard Python installation includes removal of the rings for the smallest feel in your hand. If you want the rings to remain, please make sure to mention that! Please also mention whether you want the rings flush with or hanging off the end of the handle. RACQUET GUARD TAPE - INSTALLED FREE upon request when we service your racquet This is simply a lightweight adhesive tape that we can apply across the racquet’s bumper guard (on the racquet’s head) to provide an additional layer of protection. Although a racquet’s bumper guard is a replaceable part, the tape may prolong the life of your bumper guard. To most players, the weight of the tape is imperceptible.
“BELL BAND” RUBBER BAND DAMPENER - INSTALLED FREE upon request when we service your racquet Some racquetball racquets come from the factory with a dampener installed in the strings, others do not. The factory ones sometimes fall out of the string bed during play and/or do not dampen string vibration very well. Our special rubber band, tied in just the right way dampens string vibration very well in any racquet and stays put!
